I use ferrocerium rod based fire starting heavily.I start my charcoal grill without paper or starter fluid with these rods.They work well - if you know how to use them.They will not start a charcoal briquette directly for instance.

This product has a great idea behind it - to start a fire using gross motor skills, one handed.This means that if you are hurt, cold and tired you can still use it. Great idea.

The problem is, the plastic case is weak and in cold, brittle.I have had two of these in less than a year. The first died after being dropped on a rock while I was on a light day hike.I took it out to show it to a buddy, and with my butter fingers, dropped it.The case cracked and the spring went awry and the whole works came out.Busted.Now the ferro rod inside still works, but only two handed now, one hand to hold and the other to scrape.

Get it if you want it but I'm hoping for a more Murphy proof.I figure that a survival tool should handle a dolt dropping it more than once.

Coleman Compact Table (Black or Silver Top) Review

I bought 2 of these tables because they were marked down to $32 at a local store.Both of them came out of the box damaged.They have plastic knobs that are designed to fit into holes on the bottom of the table top.That is how the table top is secured to the bottom legs. On one table, one was broken and on the other, 2 were broken.Also, on one table the metal cross support bars were damaged.The bars are made of aluminum but they are connected to the leg by a cheap piece of plastic.The plastic was broken.If the plastic on these table can't even survive shipping imagine how easily they would break just under normal use.Also, I want to note that the boxes these tables came in had no damage to them.

We bought the England's Stove Works 25-PDV pellet stove. If the stove worked properly, it would be a fantastic piece of machinery. Unfortunately, from the beginning, the stove has not worked smoothly. Have had blower issues, auger issues, constant noise, error messages, and consistent shutdowns. To those who claim that product and customer service fabulous, I say, "Wow!" Are you sure?? We've had nothing but heartache right from the beginning. The stove is cleaned and maintained daily to the utmost degree. You'd think the machinery was a Lamborghini instead of a pellet stove. Horrible, horrible, despicable product. So unreliable & problematic. Would never go near this company for endless reasons again. Should have done more homework. Englands Stove Works 55-SHP10 Pellet Stove Review

I bought this stove 2 years ago when they were priced at $1050.00. For the money it is a great little stove for the money they are asking now there are a lot more stoves' out there with better features, like: Ash Draw and agitator. If this stove had that I would buy another one. But now you have to shut down the stove everyday to clean it and the 40lb. hopper only uses about 30lbs and then shut downs. If there were an agitator to burn all of the pellets you could get the 14 hours burning time instead you get about 8 - 10 hours. If they dropped their price back to $1050, I would buy this stove. It has not broken down and heats my whole 1600 sq ft house during our New England winters.

Bainbridge II Dual Fuel Freestanding Vent Free Stove Model GSD3033 Review

I purchased the Bainbridge II Dual Fuel Freestanding Stove with an optional blower attachment. The Stove works great for its intended purpose. The blower on the other hand did not work at all. When I purchased these items I believed they were going to be brand new products like the item description stated. The blower came in a box that had the return receipt of another customer still inside it. So, someone else returned it because it didn't work and then the company resells it to me as brand new! I have exchanged a couple of e-mails with the company about it but then nothing. They have gone unheard of! I'm now out $100 because this company refused to stand behind their sale. Look around for a different seller.

ZODI Outback Gear Top Pro Stove Review

When I first opened the package, I was...

...whelmed.

The padded gear bag's plastic liner is brittle. It cracked and wouldn't hold water after the first week. The heating element is merely a coil of soft copper tubing poked into a sheet-metal box. The D-cell-powered 1/4-scale model sump pump caused laughter.

It works.

We now take showers inside our pop-up truck camper *in the winter*. We use the existing 12V water pump by force-fitting the input hose over the sink faucet while the heater is on the stove burner. When the water is really cold, we have to cycle the pump on and off (not recommended by the instructions, but then neither is using the thing inside on my inside stove, right?)

I could probably rig one up with $25 ~ $50 in hardware. But it would take half a day or more and probably look like a kluge. So, for a hundred extra bucks I get to have a camping shower that works.

Fair enough, at least it works.

EDIT: Somebody just taught me how to use a garden variety tank sprayer, filled with warm water, as a camp shower. This is such a better idea, that I am abandoning this piece of equipment and moving to the tank sprayer. Just sayin'...

Coghlan's 725 Piezoelectric Lighter Review

It has become almost impossible to fine lighters for gas ranges and outdoor grills that don't use butane.And the butane lighters that are on the market have become impossible to operate for anybody with hand weakness or arthritis.I'm pretty big and strong and it is very hard for me to operate any of the best-known brands.

So I was really pleased to see a lighter using a piezoelectric mechanism, and from a company I know well as a supplier of good camping accessories.

These lighters do not need batteries; they produce a small spark when you press a button that causes a small crystal to release enough electrical charge.Dependable mechanism.No butane needed, nothing.Takes very little force.The lighters are designed for ease of use.

The only problem is the small size of the spark.It has to be placed in just the right place to ignite a gas flame.I would rather have one of the older, no- longer-available battery-operated lighters.But these will do and I like them.

Overall, a very good and useful product.Highly recommended.

STOVE TOP POTATO BAKER Review

This is a very poorly made, shoddy product. The metal is very lightweight. The cover does not fit the bottom. It holds two potatoes, maximum. I followed the instructions to use a low flame. After 70 minutes the potatoes had a burned spot on the bottom and required an extra 10 minutes in the microwave before they were cooked. My mother used to use a stovetop potato baker. The bottom was compartmented cast iron and the top was just ordinary enameled metal. It worked like a charm. I was trying to save money on propane by avoiding the oven for baked potatoes, but this crumby pot does not work.

For safety concerns just use the source tank valve for on/off control...To fill each 1 lb. bottle more completely simply put those containers in a refrigerator or even a freezer for a few minutes AND put the 20/40 lb. FULL tank in hot water and/or in the Sun...The key here is to maximize the pressure in the source tank and minimize it in the receiving 1 lb. bottle allowing for more propane to transfer before the pressure equalizes...I've been filling these little bottles for years using this type coupler and while they may not get 100% filled as when new they can reach 80-90% with regularity when the above steps are taken...Keep in mind NO Propane tank is completely filled anyway or at least it shouldn't be to allow for excessive heat expansion when full..

Even if trying to refill in a freezing or below environment simply heating the 20/40 lb. bottle up by leaving it in a heated indoors for a few hours and/or in hot water will help tremendously to get more transferred...

When you get tanks refilled commercially the source has pump assisted pressure so this always allows for a complete fill...

This hood has the combination of features we were looking for.It ships as ductless, with punch-outs on the top and back that will allow you to convert to ducted installation.It has two light levels and a variable rotary speed control.To get all of this, including shipping, for under $100 in stainless steel is quite a good deal.It is made in USA, and the quality is very good.Even at its highest speed, it is not overly loud.Its noise rating at 200cfm is lower than any other fan I researched between 160 and 190cfm.

The product description says you need to install the RF-34 charcoal filter to "convert" it to ductless operation.I went ahead and paid the $10 (including shipping) for the filter.It rests between the metal grease filter and the fan.It has no other function than to remove odors, so you could probably do without it.

Installation was straightforward.It operates very well and looks very good.It shipped quickly and was packaged adequately.I would have paid close to $200 for something similar at my local home improvement store, and even then it would have been manufactured in China.I definitely recommend this product, and recommend purchasing it from Amazon.

Rutland Prod. 95-6 Stove Gasket Kit Review

I used this kit to replace the factory seal on my large Big Green Egg ceramic smoker/griller.I acheived a good seal by installing this gasket tape on the base of the egg only.The tape is a little long so you can bunch it up as you glue it down.This makes the seal thicker and able to cover any high or low spots where the lid meets the base.This fiberglass gasket seems more tolerant of the high heat encountered while searing steaks than the original felt seal. It is "eggcellent!"

Rome's #1100 Old Fashioned Waffle Iron, Cast Iron Review

I bought 2 of these. Based on the potential product quality, I would give it 5 stars. These can make great waffles (nonbelgian - i.e. thin), crisp on the outside, tender in the center, and light and airy. It's a revelation in fact, if you are used to the typical doughy waffle. I like these much better the what the waring pro, nonstick, flip, automatic beep, etc. In addition, the cycle time can be quite fast, provided you preheat the irons sufficiently and keep a high enough temperature. I can average 1 waffle a minute.

However, I took off a star because of the following caveats:

1) You must know how to season cast iron, otherwise the waffles will stick. It would be great if they could preseason this, like lodge logic. To season, first i put the irons in boiling water to take off the wax coating, then soaped and washed. I decided to season this on the stove top (make sure you have a good hood & vent). I preheated the irons, then brushed a raw chunk of pork fat on the surfaces several times and continued heating until the seasoning looked hard and black and no longer sticky.It took about 30 minutes (using 4 burners as I had 4 halves or two whole wafflers) and it will give off a lot of smoke. I decided to do this on the stove top because i have more control vs the oven.

2) The handles get hot. So, you need a mitt to handle it. I find a thin mitt easier to use than a thick one. It's easier to lift just the top half with a thin mitt. And you have to be somewhat careful as the halves can disengage while you are filling and removing the waffles. Having said that, I got the hang of it pretty quickly. I would not let my kids use it though. They also sell these with wooden handles. It would probably be easier.

3) You have to use enough heat. You have to preheat each side till it starts to smoke. I use medium to medium high heat on a gas burner. Do not use high heat to preheat as you can burn off the seasoning. By the way, i don't know if this will work on an electric burner. And you have to brush or spray some oil or butter. I brush lightly a mix of oil and butter. I find i only have to do this every other waffle, as the waffle mix does have some butter in it.

4) I don't wash the waffle surfaces, I just brush and wipe after cooking.

HOWEVER, in spite of all that, I really like these and the my kids rate the waffles a 10, especially the cheesy waffles.

I use a yeasted waffle batter that I make the night before. It includes, flour, buttermilk, eggs, and a bit of sugar and salt and some melted butter. I stir in a pinch of baking soda for extra lift prior to baking. You can put vanilla extract or grated cheese. I top with either real maple syrup, dulce sauce, or whipped cream and chopped fruits.

Range Kleen 687 Plastic Kleen Seam Review

When I had to replace my old stove, the installer accidentally took my metal stove strips, along with the old stove.

I wasn't too upset until I started looking to replace them and found that they're all white plastic (instead of metal) now-a-days. I have an almond-colored range, plus worry about foods (such as spaghetti sauce) staining white plastic.

This dealer was the only that I could find, at Amazon or anywhere else, that still sells the metal strips.

They shipped them quickly and they're even nicer than the ones that I had previously ... For one thing, they have a smoother surface than the ones I had before, which will make them easier to keep clean, as grease tended to stick in the brushed surface of the other ones.They're wider than the ones I had before, too. Very sturdy and not likely to bend. I'm happy.

They're each sold individually so you'll need to order two if you want to have one for each side of the stove.

Duraflame Electric Fireplace Stove - Free Shipping! Review

I received this product yesterday morning. The stove came in perfect condition, no marks, dents etc.
I ran it on and off the high heat setting for 12 hours. The floor stayed cool, I was able to hold my hand on the bottom of the heater box without burning my hand even on the highest setting. I lowered the heat in the house due to the extreme warmth coming from the product, the living room and kitchen and surrounding area stayed very comfortable all 12 hours. The flame looks great and adds a nice touch to the living room.

I love this grill.I spent a lot of time researching indoor grills before I decided on the Minden. Make sure you heat up the grill very well before you put things on it.

Pros: -The food comes out tasting just like you had grilled it outside.

GE Stove / Oven / Range Broil Element WB44K5009 Review

Ordered this from partshouse via Amazon after the broiler element in my GE JKP18B oven broke.It was packed in newspaper inside a GE parts box that seemed to protect it OK.It was a touch bent but that was easily remedied by easing it back into shape with my hands.The element was a little beefier than the original (as in a bit thicker) so hopefully it will hold up better.

Installation was pretty easy and all you'll need is a screwdriver and maybe a needle-nose pliers.There are a couple of clips that slip onto the flat metal tabs of the element and I needed the pliers to wiggle them off the original element.Just be sure not to let the wires that attach to the element slip back through the hole after you disconnect them while replacing the element.

Non Stick Gas Range Protector Review

I have a stainless steel gas range top, and this seemed like a nice solution to the daily chore of cleaning around the burners. My stove is slightly recessed, with curved interior corners, and is flat and open across the middle. The product is much as described, but not a good fit to my stove, and so it may not be a good fit to other than completely flat surfaced stoves.The openings for the burners are very small, presumably to ensure a fit for the smallest burners, however cutting them to fit is not as simple as implied by the rudimentary instructions, and getting a good fit is cautious process of trial and error even with good measurements.

Once you get the openings cut, the next challenge is shape of the surface.My stove has a recessed surface and curved corners, which the liners did not adapt well to.I ended up slitting the corners about ½ inch toward the center, and then slightly rounding the remaining tips to allow overlap and stilleffectively cover the surface.It is hardly a perfect fit, but is workable, and the appearance is acceptable (not a complete eye-sore).

Pros: Material is as described, closely matching our stainless steel stovetop, and is relatively non-stick.

Cons: Difficult to get a nice fit around burners and cover the stovetop surface unless your stovetop is flat, corners are square, and burners are all very small and of equal size.

In my opinion, the installation method and resulting appearance were what you would expect from cheap disposable liners.I gave this product 3 stars as a result of the quality of the material, but was leaning toward 2 stars based on the installation method and price.

Coleman 9949-750 Road Trip Grill, Red Review

My wife and I wanted a new grill for tailgating at Miami Dolphins games this year. I am somewhat of a home gourmet and I am extremely particular of my cooking accouterments. After reading countless reviews on many different sites we narrowed it down to the Weber Q and the Coleman Roadtrip LXE. We went to Outdoor World here in Fort Lauderdale and actually looked at both as they had floor models available. We chose the Roadtrip based on it's modular ease of set-up and take down (I've never seen anything easier), the high 20,000 BTU output and the dual burner set-up, none of which the Weber Q had unless you purchased the top of the line Weber which was more than double the price in order to get dual burners and the higher BTU's. The Weber Q stand seemed much flimsier also.

After deciding on this grill we ordered it from Amazon for $159.00 and we chose the free shipping as we were not in any hurry since football season pre-games don' start until August. Amazon had the lowest price we could find. We were surprised to see this grill show up on our door step just 4 days later when the free shipping option told us it would take almost 2 weeks.

I opened the box and set it up immediately and I was pleasantly surprised that it came out of the box nearly complete. Just putthe wheels on, attach the handle and the regulator and you're good to go. About 15 minutes in all as compared to hours I have spent assemblying other new grills.

Next came the cook test and the clean up test. After reading other reviewers saying that they lined the inside with foil for easier cleanup, I thought this was a good idea and did the same. I laid foil across the entire insides and with a steak knife cut around the 2 burners and a hole so any drippings could fall into the drip pan. I have read that the instructions for some of these roadtrip grills say to place water in the bottom for easier clean-up. NOT this model. The instructions say nothing of the sort. From reading many reviews, I summize that is on the standard Roadtrip model Model No. 9941-768 not this LXE model so the foil is a good idea.

I chose a beautiful 28 day aged NY Stip steak and my wife a 2 1/2" barrel cut filet. I preheated the grill for 5 minutes with the lid open on medium, wiped one side of the grill with vegetable oil and the other side with Pam for grilling(handles higher heats). I wanted to see right from the beginning which worked better on these porcelain coated cast iron grills. I can tell you I saw absoultely no difference between the two and will continue to use the Pam.

This grill gets HOT!I have to say that I was concerned about the fact that these grill surfaces do have the center area as solid cast iron(no open grill) so no flame gets through over the top of the burners. My concern was no flame hitting the meat = less flavor. The purpose for this is so that grease does not fall directly onto the 2 burners themselves. Let me clarify, there is open grill area...just not directly over the burners. I can report that this concern turned out to be competely unfounded. I rubbed the steaks with olive oil and salt & peppered them and placed each one directly over each burner on the unopened flame area. From the very first second I knew that the searing was going to be awesome and it was.It sizzled like nothing I have ever heard before except on commercial kitchen grills. The grill marks were perfect, the taste and flavor was perfect. I can't say enough about this grill. So far I love it but what about clean up.

The grills cooled down very quickly. I soaked the two porcelain coated cast iron grills in soapy hot water in my kitchen sink over night, as they fit no problem. I honestly don't think I needed to because I ran my finger accoss to see how "baked" on the residue was. It semed to come off pretty easily but I was full on a 16 oz NY strip and several glasses of Cabernet so they could wait until morning. The next morning the grills cleaned up so easily with a soapy wet sponge and I removed the foil lining and wiped the whole inside down with a soapy wet sponge and wiped it out with a dry towel. There was no difference in ease of clean up between the vegetable oil side or the Pam side. Both were easy. The porcelain coated cast iron grills do not need "seasoning" as un-coated cast iron grills do and if something does get baked on you can use a brass grill brush to clean them. Just make sure the brush is brass. It's softer and won't damage the procelain coating.

Folks, forget about any of the horror stories you hear about this grill...it's awesome. It gets so hot you don't need to close the lid so don't let that be a deterrent unlesss you smoke your food. The only reason I give this grill a 4 and not a 5 is because of the fact you can't cook with the lid closed. Although I said don't let it be a deterrent, it would be nice to smoke food. Also worth noting is that this new version comes with two grill surfaces. The older version came with one grill and one griddle and you were forced to buy an additional grill surface. Also with this new version the grill does NOT come off of the stand to be placed on a table top and the lid does not come off. I have read the opposite from other reviewers. Perhaps those things were true with older models. I know this was a long review, but these were all things I was concerned about and that I read conflicting stories on. I hope my review is helpful to you!

I own this stove.I also own the Dimplex electric fireplace log insert.Dimplex products are somewhat more expensive than others, but they out-perform them, and the company customer service really stands behind their products (they replaced the remote control box without argument despite it being beyond the 1 year warranty period). This traditional heater looks authentic, the flame function is a beautiful recreation of an actual fire - and the heater can literally drive you out of a 20'X 20' room if you turn it all the way up.As I said, I bought their fireplace insert after my success with this stove. It too has a beautiful visual effect and a capable, dependable heater.If you buy this stove (or any similar makes) you may want to consider doing what I've done: that is to buy four wooden "bun" furniture feet at a hardware store, paint them flat black and use them under the four stove legs. This raises the heater box (on the stove bottom) off the carpet about 2".Raising the stove a little higher givers a better appearance and provides more airflow through the actual heater making it more efficient since it can blow farther from the unit. As a final note I'm looking at the dimplex compact version for my mother in W. New York.

Stainless Steel Stovetop Popcorn Popper Review

I had an aluminum Whirley Pop that had performed wonderfully for years. For reasons beyond my understanding, my wife bought this popper as a replacement. Despite its added solidity and bulk, the steel pan and lid fail to heat up enough to keep steam from condensing heavily onto the popped corn. This creates tough, chewey, popcorn. If you heated the popper without oil for a time you might be able to avoid this. The aluminum popper does a better job for less money and without excessive preheating time.

Wolfgang Puck WPIDC010 Induction-Powered Cooktop Stove Review

This review should properly cover 2 areas: Induction technology and this particular stove. On both these fronts, this item does very well.

1. Induction cooking technology - only once in a great while do you come across a technology that actually is as good in practice as it sounds on paper. I was surprised by how well this technology works. I am big fan of this now, having used it for 2 days (have to convince my wife to use this more often). Amazing how quickly the pot gets hot, and how quickly any change in the temperature setting translates into a decrease in the cooking heat. This is almost magical. I am surprised more people dont use induction stoves more often- I talked to a few friends about this stove, and none of them had heard of this. On top of everything, I am sure this is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint.

2. This particular stove:So far, in 2 days, I have no complaints. I looked at all the options on Amazon, and was puzzled for a while as to which one to buy. Eventually, I bought this as it was the cheapest of its kind on Amazon- and I found this to have 4 stars (of 5) on the Macy's website. I was a little afraid of what it would be like. However, it performs as promised. It has temperature settings from 150F - 400F (increments of 50F), and 1400W to 600W (increments of 200W). You can choose either way to control heat.I make tea/boil milk on this, and I can make tea in a record of 8 minutes. On my heavy duty gas burner, I would easily take 15 minutes, and I am sure it isextremely inefficient to boot.

The only downside is that it has a rather loud fan (like a microwave). Not a major downside, but this aspect was just a little unexpected.

The other downside (of the technology, not this particular stove) - you need new pots and pans. I had to spend 50$ getting a new set of iron pots. However, these were not non-stick (actually, they are non-stick..they just dont work as well as the usual non-stick pots and pans), so the cleaning is a little more cumbersome.

I bought this one burner camp chef stove to add to the 2 burner I had already purchased. We use these stoves to cook breakfast before riding off on ATV's.So we are not setting around camp after having breakfast.We need to clean up the dishes, fold camp back up and put it away in the Pick-up Bed with a fiberglass cover and hit the trail.With the griddle going cooking bacon and also another skillet going we needed a place to have a coffee pot cooking.And also needed to be heating water to do dishes quickly. After the bacon is cooked we have one burner heating hash brown patties and the other doing scrambled eggs with chili at the last, so the 2 burner camp chef is busy. Eggs are coordinated to be ready when the Dutch Oven biscuits are done.Why screw this gourmet breakfast up with a flimsy throw away plastic fork. This one burner stove also works with the BBQ grill and Griddle for the Camp Chef products if needed.It fits nicely in the box it came in for storage.I trashed the carry case for the two burner Camp Chef.The hardest part of breaking up camp was putting that two burner stove back in the carrying case.The zipper broke after two uses anyway. It looks cool but life is better without the frustration of trying to put it back in the case. The One Burner Camp Chef takes the pressure off doing it all quickly on just 2 burners. These two stoves with a 5# and a 10# butane tank is cool.Lots of convenient firepower that is easy to set up and put away.

I am thrilled beyond words!I so love this little pot!It is gorgeous and so able to produce great coffee.I was able to successfully make a mocha that far surpassed any I have spent $4-5 on.This little pot is just so cool!First, its adorable, actually quite a beautiful piece.Its heavy stainless steel, has a great feel in your hands.Very well made, with the cute Bialetti logo engraved on side.Second, its extremely easy to use.Third, it makes a great cup of strong, delicious coffee!Fourth, its very VERY easy to clean.Here's how I make the best mocha and latte: follow directions on your pot for filling the bottom with water, fill the coffee filter with Dunkin Donuts ground coffee (yes, all you coffee snobs, DD coffee worked fabulously!) level with your finger, but DO NOT TAMP.Dust off edge of reservoir, screw on top part of pot.Place on med/hi NOT HIGH, heat and be careful to situate so you dont burn the handle.Stay close, cuz in about 5min it will be done.Meanwhile, place 1C milk in micro for 1.5min, then place in the Nissan stainless steel handpump frother.Pump until milk is sufficiently frothed.Add 2Tbl chocolate syrup in mugs (I used Hersheys Dark, great results) When your coffee is done, pour between the 2 mugs, then top off with about 1/3 mug of frothed milk in each.Such a simple pleasure.Too clean, just rinse with hot water and wipe dry. I'm in love with this pot!

Portable Stainless Double Burner Stove Review

The stove itself is lovely, but I have to say that I am fearful of using it, as I have had to guess what regulator, hose and fittings I must use to hook it up to propane for use. I bought it believing I could use it indoors as an alternate cook top, but having gone to a propane dealer and asking blindly for what I thought I must need, I was informed that I could only use a 1lb canister of propane indoors, and to want to use something like this inside at all is so unusual that I would need $50.00 fitting just to hook it up to the 1lb tank.
The Grill Store should be more mindful of the information needed to use their product safely and sucessfully. I would have reconsidered if I had known what I have since learned.

JC Stone Stove Top In/Outdoor Grill Review

I have one of these stone-topped grills, but I didn't get it from Amazon. None the less, I will review this product for the sake of others considering it.

Does it brown meat? Hell yes. If you try to brown meat and fail, it's because the stone wasn't hot enough when you put the meat on. The stone has a very high heat capacity and takes a while to get searing hot, but once it's hot, it will brown if not blacken meat easily. The stone takes a minute or two to pre-heat. Make sure you thoroughly oil the stone when you pre-heat the stone. Failure to oil the stone will make food stick to it. The stone may actually have to be seasoned before use. I don't know; mine came in a box covered in Japanese text, which I can't read.

Is it easy to clean? Absolutely not. I used mine for korean barbecue. Korean marinades tend to contain sugar, fruit juices, or malt syrup. All of these ingredients will char and leave your grill topper caked with carbon. Do not wash the grill with soap; the stone is porous and is meant to be scraped clean. Soap will get into the pores and ruin the flavor of subsequent meals cooked on it. Repeated use will season the stone until it's blackened like an old cast iron pan. Rinse the cooking surface under hot water and scrub with a coarse stiff brush a few times to get the loose stuff off, then and scrape any charred junk off using either a razor blade topped scraper or a utility blade. The one biggest drawback of this thing is the difficulty of cleaning it.

If the difficulty of cleaning is not worth the extra heat retention of the stone, this product is not going to be worth it for you. If you absolutely must have convenience, get one of those nonstick coated grill toppers.

Now, I must add that if you heat your stone too quickly, it might develop cracks, so pre-heat on medium or medium-low rather than blasting it on high. Mine still works, but it had visible cracks going through it after the first use, where I foolishly heated it on full blast. The outer metal portion holds it together such that the cracks aren't really a big deal, but I imagine that after repeated use, a cracked stone might fall apart eventually.

One more thing: this device is not meant to be used on the stove top. The stoves I've tried it on don't fit well; if it doesn't fit well, it can shift around. It fits best on one of those portable butane canister fueled burners commonly sold in Asian markets. The idea is that you have this thing going at the table, and you cook your meats at the table Korean Barbecue style.
